96-year-old Charleston woman parasails for the first time

ISLE OF PALMS, SC (WCSC) - On September 30, Pauline Sherman will turn 97. She's never driven a car and Monday was only the second time she's been on a boat. This adventure gave her a view she's never seen -- from almost 1,000 feet in the air.

"It was great, I would do it again," said Sherman.

It's not everyday a 96-year-old parasails, much less for the first time. To those around her, this just scratches the surface of Sherman's unique character. "She is such a phenomenal woman. She is an inspiration to me those who know her," said granddaughter Regina Ford.

While she keeps her family in awe, she can thank her doctor for her wild ride. "She went for a check up and the doctor said she is 96 and in perfect health. If she was going to die she needed to invent something to die from," said Ford.

"He though I would have to hunt for something 'cause he couldn't find anything wrong," added Sherman.

With that, 96-year-old Sherman decided to shake up her routine and seek out some adventure. Her family stepped in to help.

Seventy-nine years separate Pauline and her great-grand-daughter Hilary, but that didn't stop Hilary from finding a thrill ride they could do together. "It was very surprising I expected her to back out and say I was just kidding you guys. She was a really good sport about it," she said.

Parasailing wasn't the only thing she checked off her to-do list. She also drove the boat back through the marina. She guided the group back safely, ready to return to more familiar activities, "back to knitting and crocheting. I do a lot of that."
